What's Your Quilting Style?
Share
When did you make your first quilt? I made mine sometime around the age of 14. I remember I was in late middle school or early high school and had been interested in quilting for ages but didn't know how to start. I found a book at Michaels with instructions on how to make a sampler quilt and... well, you're here so that's enough said :)
I'm curious, how has your quilting style changed over the years? Or would you even say that you have one? If you did, how did it develop and when did you decide "this is it"?
For myself, I've been trying to figure out how to describe mine and the best way I can describe it is "vintagely modern" because there's such a clash of traditional, vintage quilt shapes and patterns but with bright, modern fabrics and colors mixed in. But even then I'm not sure if that quite encapsulates who I am as a quilter. What do you think? Are there any words you would use to describe it? I'd love to hear your thoughts on any and all of it.

My first ever quilt! We all gotta start somewhere, right?

Birds in the Air, my second quilt.
It was around this point that I started working for a quilt shop and everything changed. I learned so much, grew in confidence in color and pattern and design, had the joy of helping customers create their own beautiful art pieces, and also got introduced into the world of quilting with quilt designers, fabric companies, notions and everything else.

One of my favourite quilts ever - Hexie Framed by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love, fabric is Honor Roll by Anna Maria Parry

In the mix of all the other quilts I've made, I started to design my own! These have been so, SO fun to dream up and create. Even when you start with a design for a block, you never quite know what the final quilt will look like.

Bright Hopes - my first ever quilt made by my own design! You can find the pattern for it here.

I then tried an on-point version of Bright Hopes in Goldenrod by 1Canoe2.

Earlier this year I finished up my Simple Days quilt, my second pattern to be released. This one was made in Pink Lemonade by Tessie Fay.

Last but not least here is my Cathedrals quilt, a free pattern for when you sign up to my mailing list. This one was a bit of a scrappy project but the majority of the fabrics were by Joel Dewberry.
So what do you think? Do I have a specific quilt style? Does 'vintagely modern' cover it? Do we even need to have a quilt style?
